MAKING MOTIONS AT THE ASSEMBLY CONSIDERATION SESSION

During our Annual Education and Business Conference, we will be conducting the Assembly Consideration Session and this is essentially an opportunity to advocate your position in accordance with any of the following technical committee reports and motions.

The session will be conducted as follows:

  1. The Moderator will review the rules at the start of the session.
  2. The Moderator will remind everyone that all discussions will be based on actions taken by the Plumbing and Mechanical Technical Committees as published in the Report on Proposals. Each participant should come prepared with a copy of the UPC and UMC Report on Proposals.
  3. Beginning with the respective code (UPC or UMC), the Moderator will call for motions starting with Chapter 1 and continue in numerical order of chapters and conclude with the Appendices. A motion may be made to any item located in the ROP. At the conclusion of the session we will call for any remaining motions related to the respective code.
  4. Any attendee (who is authorized to vote as specified in Article 3 of the IAPMO bylaws) in the Assembly who objects to the action of the Technical Committee, may make a motion. Motions that are in order consist of accepting the code change proposal as submitted, accepting the code change as modified with a specific modification that has been offered from the Assembly, reject the code change proposal, or reject the code change proposal as modified by the Technical Committee. A person making the motion must fill out a card or comment form with correct information prior to the start of the meeting.
  5. For those of you who are planning to make a motion during the session please state your name and affiliation, clearly state the motion and wait for a second. Once the second has been recognized by the chair, proceed with discussion. For discussion purposes please keep the information simple and to the point, refer to statements and ballots in the ROP. Audio and visual presentations are prohibited. Any handouts please present to IAPMO staff for approval.
Motions on proposals from the (ROP) are as follows:
(a) Accept the proposed code change as submitted.
(b) Accept the proposed code change as modified with a specific modification that has been offered from the Assembly.
(c) Reject the proposed code change.
